SCBWN joins in global celebrations

21 February 2008

The Sunshine Coast Business Women's Network will join thousands of other organisations around the world to celebrate International Women's Day, by hosting a breakfast at the Novotel Twin Waters Resort on March 5.

International Women's Day recognises the achievements of women and their contribution to society. The breakfast is proudly sponsored by long-time International Women's Day supporter, Neuendorf Interiors.

This year, the network will kindly welcome First Officer DK Haryati Pg Abdul Rais and Senior First Officer Sharifah Czarena Surainy Syed Hj Hashim as guest speakers at the event. These two inspirational young ladies have overcome extraordinary challenges to pursue their dreams of becoming international pilots with Royal Brunei Airlines.

In a predominately male orientated industry, these ladies have defied the odds and challenged the norm to follow a career that has taken them on remarkable journey across the globe.

Sunshine Coast Business Women's Network President, Karen Neuendorf, feels strongly about the event, which recognises the trials and triumphs of women world-wide.

“The breakfast aims to inspire women and celebrate their achievements,” she said.

Since its birth in the socialist movement, International Women's Day has, grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike.

“This is the fourth consecutive year that we have supported International Women's Day and in doing so we recognise all the contributions to society made by women across all walks of life through career, community and in the home,” said Neuendorf Interiors Managing Director, Keith Neuendorf.

International Women's Day, officially celebrated on 8 March every year, has come a long way from being a reminder about the adversity that women faced to the celebration of their achievements.

“Year after year, International Women's Day is increasing in status, recognising just how far women have come. Today Australian women have more opportunity, freedom and choice than ever before,” said Karen Neuendorf.

Royal Brunei Airlines has also generously donated two return tickets to Brunei and accommodation at the Empire Hotel & Country Club in support of the network's International Women's Day charity raffle.

To book for the breakfast, please book on-line at www.scbwn.org.au or call Chelsea on 0412 525 854 by 11am Wednesday, 27 February.
