International Women's Day

The Sunshine Coast Business Women's Network will join thousands of other organisations around the world to celebrate International Women's Day, by hosting a breakfast at the Hyatt Regency Coolum on March 13.

The breakfast is being sponsored by long-time International Women's Day sponsor, Neuendorf Interiors and is also supported by the Queensland Government's Department of State Development.

Chris Cameron, who has been nationally recognised as one of Australia 's most dynamic business women, will be the guest speaker at the event.

The marketing brain behind Rockcote Enterprises, Chris has helped to take the business from a backyard shed operation to a multi-award winning company manufacturing and distributing specialised texture coatings, renders and paints throughout Australia and overseas.

In 2006, BRW Magazine named Chris as one of Australia 's leading female entrepreneurs and in 2003 she was National Telstra Business Woman of the Year in the Westpac Group Business Owner Category.

International Women's Day has, since its birth in the socialist movement, grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike.

Sunshine Coast Business Women's Network President, Karen Neuendorf, feels strongly about the event, which recognises the trials and triumphs of women world-wide.

“The breakfast aims to inspire women and celebrate their achievements,” she said.

The new millennium has witnessed a significant change in society's thoughts and a shift in their attitudes towards women's equality and liberation.

“This is the third consecutive year that we have supported International Women's Day and in doing so we recognise all the contributions to society made by women across all walks of life through career, community and in the home,” said Neuendorf Interiors Managing Director, Keith Neuendorf.

Minister for State Development John Mickel said women made a significant contribution to the Queensland business sector with about 34 per cent of all the state's businesses operated by women.

International Women's Day, officially celebrated on 8 March every year, has come a long way from being a reminder about the adversity that women faced to the celebration of their achievements.

“Year after year, International Women's Day is increasing in status, recognising just how far women have come,” said Karen Neuendorf.
