Scarecrow competition entries closing soon

June 28, 2010

Entries for the Scarecrow competition in the Queensland Home Garden Expo are due to close soon with all entry forms needing to be submitted by Friday July, 2 and scarecrows being delivered the week after.

Last year's inaugural competition attracted over 40 entries with an impressive collection ranging from mannequin styled scarecrows to mermaids to Bob Abbot look-alikes.

Marion Beazley, Queensland Home Garden Expo organiser, says the judges are again looking forward to judging the competition which proved to be a tough job due to the level of creative talent of last year's entries.

“We were very impressed last year and although we hope to exceed last year's number of entries, I am sure we will once again see an array of exciting and diverse scarecrows in each of our three categories,” said Marion.

The categories are the scariest scarecrow, the most glamorous scarecrow and the statement scarecrow, which is designed to deliver a social or environmental message.

With school holidays underway, the scarecrow competition is a great way that a group of friends or a whole family can get involved. Entries are open to schools, community groups, families and individuals to enter their unique designs and be in the running for some great cash prizes.

All group entries will receive two free tickets to the Expo and each individual entry will receive one free ticket to the event. In each category, the winner will receive $200 and each runner up will receive a $50 cash prize.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the website at www.homegardenexpo.com.au and must be submitted no later than Friday, July 2 with scarecrows being delivered to the Nambour Showgrounds on Wednesday July 7. Judging will take place on the Expo opening day, Friday, July 9.

The Queensland Home Garden Expo is held from 9-11 July and is a celebration of all things gardening attracting over 27,000 visitors last year who enjoyed displays from over 360 exhibitors, including 50 nurseries.
