A feast fit for giants

16 June 2008

It's not called the Giant Kitchen Garden for nothing! Giant in size and giant in all things organic, this is one attraction not to be missed at this year's Queensland Home Garden Expo to be held at the Maroochy Showgrounds, Nambour from July 11-13.

Wander through the magic that this fully-planted garden offers or sample some of the local organic produce. The freshest fruits, vegetables, herbs and cottage plants will not only inspire you to grow your own, you will also come face-to-face with some of Australia's leading sustainable gardening experts.

Ramble along winding paths or take a seat and be inspired by Jade Woodhouse. A foremost organic authority, Jade's enthusiasm, knowledge, expertise and love for all things garden are second to none.

Or perhaps, cooking with herbs is something of interest, join local identity and renowned gardening specialist Barb Wickes in one of her demonstrations. Delicious and tantalising offerings will also be on offer when Yukari Desjardins reveals how to produce simple, versatile and authentic organics delights.

ABC Gardening presenter Jerry Coleby-Williams will also be on hand to provide expert advise and will be discussing the values of low carbon gardening. Jerry has always been a keen advocate for all things sustainable and his reputation is famous in the area.

Event Coordinator, Marion Beazley, is extremely excited about this year's Expo and says that each year the Giant Kitchen Garden area continues to grow as sustainable and organic gardening becomes more popular.

“In the past two years it has grown in popularity both with spectators and exhibitors. People are becoming more interested in organic and sustainable gardening, which is fantastic, and our exhibitors come from all over Queensland and Interstate to provide a wonderful line up of exhibits and activities,” said Marion.

With a program packed full with exciting talks and demonstrations for garden novices and experts alike, the three-day event will provide visitors with information on how to create native bird and frog habitats to worm-farming as well as composting secrets.

Gates open at 8am daily with easy access and onsite parking. For more information please visit www.homegardenexpo.com.au.
