The skies above Coolum may be without colour this October if organisers of the iconic IGA Coolum Kite Festival are not able to find anyone to takeover the organisation of the vibrant community event. Following nine successful years, festival committee members have stepped down allowing an opportunity for someone with fresh ideas, enthusiasm and energy to take the festival to new heights.

Excitement is mounting as international kite flyers, artists and performers converge on the Sunshine Coast ahead of this weekend's 9 th annual IGA Coolum Kite Festival with perfect weather conditions predicted for the vibrant community event. The event, which has grown in popularity over the years, is set to attract over 40,000 spectators and kite flying enthusiasts to its spectacular beach setting with a program jam packed with activities on offer for all ages.

Festival organisers are urging all motorists to take advantage of the free parking and bus services available during the upcoming IGA Coolum Kite Festival from October 3-4, 2009 due to a number of road closures in and around the Coolum area. Over 40,000 visitors are expected to converge upon Coolum Beach for the festival, which will see Stumers Creek Road closed from 1:00 pm on Friday, October 2 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, October 4.

Following six successful years as chairman of the festival, Noel Mooney has decided to step aside leaving the position to be filled by someone who shares his passion and dedication to community events.
