Join the fun by becoming a volunteer

3 Sepetmber 2008

One of Australia's largest and most vibrant festivals, the IGA Coolum Kite Festival will take place on October 11-12 and organisers are calling for all volunteers interested in being a part of this year's exciting event to register their details.

Expected to attract over 40,000 people to its spectacular setting, the 8 th annual IGA Coolum Kite Festival is almost entirely organised and run by volunteers which enables the festival to remain one of the largest free public events in the region.

The 2008 IGA Coolum Kite Festival requires volunteers to assist professional kite flyers, stall managers, artistic directors and stage managers as well as to help with research and promotion, children's activities, parking control, information tents, merchandise sales, translation and many other activities.

Festival organisers are specifically looking for volunteers with Chinese language skills to act as interpreters for Chinese delegates as well as team leaders and students wanting to gain practical experience and insight into the event management industry through the co-ordination and organisation of various activities.

IGA Coolum Kite Festival Chairman, Noel Mooney, says that volunteers are an extremely important part of this festival and without the help and hard work of these dedicated people, the festival would not exist.

“Becoming a volunteer is a very rewarding experience, it's a great way to get involved and support your community, it provides opportunities to meet new people and to gain practical work experience,” Noel said.

“I would encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering to get involved, as this year's festival is shaping up to be a fantastic event with a number of positions and exciting opportunities available.”

Volunteers are needed from Thursday, October 9 through to Monday, October 13 and while previous experience or any special skills are highly regarded they are certainly not essential.

The festival runs a professional volunteer program with training, meals, a uniform T-shirt and hat provided. There will also be a party for all volunteers at the end of the festival to thank everyone for their efforts.
