The weekend festival which is expected to attract over 40,000 visitors to its pristine beach setting over the 2 days, will include an impressive and electrifying night time spectacular based around this year's theme the ‘Future of Ikarus'. The funding will go towards the production of this cultural arts program which will combine Greek mythology with the re-creation of Benjamin Franklin's kite flying stunt in 1752 showcasing pyrotechnic visuals, movement, comedy, acrobatics, theatre and music. IGA Coolum Kite Festival Chairman, Noel Mooney, is thrilled to have received the funding and eagerly looks forward to the night time spectacular which he says will add a fiery energy to the festival. “The skies will be alive with the spectacular array of kites during the day and the evening program will provide a diverse range of entertainment by moonlight, including fantastic live performances featuring thrilling pyrotechnic stunts, electrical displays, skydiving, and much more in a visual and musical display encompassing the ocean, the sky and the creek,” said Noel. To be held on October 11-12 at Stumers Creek, Coolum Beach, the festival will attract some of the best national and even international kite flyers. Kites of all shapes and sizes will be on display including some massive character and theme-based kites. There will also be plenty of fireworks, roving performers, food and market stalls as well as night-time skydiving.
