The kid's zone at the festival, open to children of all ages, will be a hive of colour, fun and excitement, with the opportunity for children to take part in the tiny tots music and movement activities, break dancing classes, the Great Scott's Circus Show and circus workshops. “The festival will celebrate all that's great about the coastal lifestyle – sun, surf and beach with the most extensive children's program to date,” said IGA Coolum Kite Festival Chairman, Noel Mooney. “Prior to the start of the Festival, we will host a Schools Day on Thursday, 20 September where hundreds of children will have the opportunity to fly the kites they have made.” More than 450 students from schools across the Sunshine Coast, including Coolum, Sunshine Beach, Pacific Paradise and Kawana have made kites during the kite-building workshops hosted at their schools over the past few weeks. Schools Day, proudly sponsored by Bentley's MRI, will give them the opportunity to fly their kites with the help of the experienced festival kite flyers as well as enjoying kite flying demonstrations by the national and international kite flyers attending the festival. The weekend festival is not just about kites or the kids and there will be many activities to keep everyone entertained. There will be fireworks, demonstrations by the RAAF Roulettes, roving performers, food and market stalls, night-time skydiving, kite surfing, a lantern parade, sculptures, a huge cultural arts component and a popular music festival that simmers in the moonlight over Stumers Creek. Noel Mooney says that there is something magical about the kite festival, a much loved family tradition, a weekend filled with loads of activities and entertainment and an opportunity to be outside where the sky is the limit. This vibrant festival to be held from September 22-23, has grown in popularity over the years and is expected to attract over 40,000 visitors to its spectacular beach setting for a weekend of fantastic kite flying demonstrations, workshops and entertainment. Don't miss out on one of the Sunshine Coast 's most popular events. For more information on the IGA Coolum Kite Festival, please visit www.coolumkitefestival.com. |
