Kite festival calls for volunteers

One of Australia 's largest and most vibrant kite festivals, the IGA Coolum Kite Festival is calling for all volunteers interested in being a part of this year's exciting event.

The 7 th annual IGA Coolum Kite Festival, which is expected to attract over 40,000 people to its spectacular beach setting, will be held from September 22-23.

The community event is almost entirely organised and run by volunteer efforts which enables the festival to remain one of the largest free public events in the region.

IGA Coolum Kite Festival Chairman, Noel Mooney, says that volunteers are an extremely important part of this festival and without the help and hard work of these dedicated people, the festival would not exist.

“Becoming a volunteer is a very rewarding experience, it's a great way to get involved and support your community, it provides opportunities to meet new people, and to gain practical work experience,” Noel said.

“I would encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering to get involved in this year's kite festival as it promises to be a fantastic event with heaps of positions and exciting opportunities available.”

The 2007 IGA Coolum Kite Festival requires volunteers to assist professional kite flyers, stall managers, artistic directors and stage managers as well as to help with research and promotion, children's activities, parking control, information tents, merchandise sales, translation and many other activities.

Volunteers are needed from Thursday, September 20, through to Monday, September 24, and previous experience or any special skills are highly regarded but not essential.

The festival's volunteer program is run professionally with training, meals a uniform T-shirt and hat provided. There will also be a party for all volunteers at the end of the festival to thank everyone for their efforts.
