Big band's first 2008 performance

12 February 2008

The award-winning Sunshine Coast Concert Band will kick off the New Year with a special concert in support of Blue Care on Sunday, February 24 from 2pm at the Caloundra Uniting Church.

The band, led by musical director Ken Chadwick, will be accompanied by popular singers, Bev Gourlay and Aart Schouten and the event will be hosted by compere, Geoff Malcolm of 104.9 FM.

Over the past decade the Sunshine Coast Concert Band has been involved in supporting a number of local charities through their concerts. Last year alone, the band performed twelve times, donating door takings to the Nambour Special School, Coolum High School Chaplaincy, The Queensland Cancer Council, Maroochydore Rotary and Sunshine Coast Legacy to name a few.

Musical Director, Ken Chadwick, said the band was really looking forward to their first performance of the New Year.

“The support for the band was fantastic last year and as a result we were able to raise much needed funds for a range of local charities,” he said.

“Those attending the concert will enjoy some of the big band favourites as well as popular solo performances. The event promises to be a great afternoon of entertainment.”

Blue Care is not-for-profit provider of community and residential care services.

The Caloundra Uniting Church is located in Queen Street, Caloundra.

Tickets for the concert are available at the door at a cost of $10, which includes afternoon tea. For more information please call 5450 6680.
