Local concert band supports Legacy

The Sunshine Coast Concert Band will present a Remembrance Day Concert in support of Sunshine Coast Legacy on Saturday, 10 November at 2pm at the Baptist Community Centre in Wises Road, Maroochydore.

The event will begin with a short Remembrance Day Ceremony with piper, Wayne Clark, bugler, Keith Walker and a Catafalque Party with TS Onslow. The concert will then be started with the Concert Band playing The Dambusters March, followed by the stirring hymn Abide With Me.

Guest singers, Bev Gourlay and Aart Schouten will accompany the band and the event will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Graham Schulz.

“We are delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause as Legacy through one of our concerts,” Musical Director, Ken Chadwick said.

“We will remember those who bravely fought for our country with an enjoyable programme including some special war-time favourites and sing-a-longs.”

Since their inception in 1923, Legacy, has helped widows, children and dependents of those who have served in the Australian armed forces in any conflicts since the First World War.

The Glenn Miller memories of big band music will have the toes tapping with the popular songs like I've Got a Girl in Kalamazoo, saxophone trio Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy plus the Dixieland arrangement of At The Jazzband Ball.

Some other favourites included in the line-up are My Fair Lady, Clarinet Polka, Tribute to Bob Hope, That Lovely Weekend and saxophone duet After You've Gone.
