Return to 'About Sunshine Coast Concert Band' Free concert marks over 40,000 community hoursAugust 14, 2006 The 45-piece band has raised over $100,000 for charities across the Sunshine Coast and is thanking the loyal supporters for making this possible. “This is our way of giving something back to those who have supported us over the years,” said Ken Chadwick, Musical Director of the Band. “We have brought up Kevin Hunt from Sydney who will also be accompanied by our own professional tenor saxophonist, Ian Edwards – it promises to be a fantastic afternoon of spontaneous ad-libs and toe-tapping renditions of some of the favourites,” Kevin Hunt, one of Australia 's most renowned pianists and composers and is a jazz teacher at the Sydney Conservatorium. He was nominated for the Best Jazz Album ARIA in 2003 and has a string of awards to his name including the winner of the 1999 Mo Award for Jazz Instrumental Performer of the Year. He has also toured and travelled as the full-time pianist for Don Burrows since 1995 both around Australia and internationally. Kevin will perform classics piano solos including Dave Brubeck's Blue Rondo Alla Turka and It's Deja Vu, Kitten On the Keys, a Gershwin Medley and Moody as well as popular numbers like Black and White Rag supported by the 40-piece band. The compere for the event will be Alex Lanham. The Sunshine Coast Concert Band is the largest community concert band on the Sunshine Coast and all members rehearse and perform in a voluntary capacity. Their love of music has provided quality entertainment for local audiences and has assisted non-profit and charity organisations with fundraising since 1996. They perform up to 16 times per year and over the years the band has raised funds for charities across the Coast including the Lions Club, Rotary, Nambour Special School , Sonshine Sanctuary for women and children in crisis, Tanawha Rural fire brigade, Legacy and many more. The band's musicians come from a variety of walks of life including teachers, nurses, accountants, students and professional musicians. Members range in age from 14 to 80 and yet they all have one thing in common – the love of music.
