August 3, 2006

The award-winning Sunshine Coast Concert Band is hosting a free concert accompanied by ARIA nominee, pianist Kevin Hunt, to celebrate ten years of good music, great support and raising over $100,000 for charities across the Sunshine Coast .

“This is our way of giving something back to those who have supported us over the years,” said Ken Chadwick, Musical Director of the Band.

“We have brought up Kevin Hunt from Sydney who will also be accompanied by our own professional tenor saxophonist, Ian Edwards – it promises to be a fantastic afternoon of spontaneous ad-libs and toe-tapping renditions of some of the favourites,”

Kevin Hunt, one of Australia's most renowned pianists, composer and jazz teacher at the Sydney Conservatorium, was nominated for the Best Jazz Album ARIA in 2003 and has a string of awards to his name including the winner of the 1999 Mo Award for Jazz Instrumental Performer of the Year.

Kevin will perform classics such as Dave Brubeck's "It's Deja Vu" and “Moody " as well as popular numbers like “Black and White Rag" supported by the 40-piece band.

Over the years the band has raised funds for charities across the Coast including the Lions Club, Rotary, Nambour Special School , Sonshine Sanctuary for women and children in crisis, Tanawha Rural fire brigade, Legacy and many more.

The concert will be held at the Wises Road Baptist Community Hall and is FREE, Saturday 26 August 2-4pm. For more information please call 5450 6680.
