Concert Band Fires Up

September 15, 2005

The Sunshine Coast Concert Band will perform in a music extravaganza on Sunday, September 25 at 2pm at the Kawana Community Hall to raise funds for the Tanawha Rural Fire Brigade.

The funds raised will help the fire brigade cover their costs of fuel, equipment and maintenance for a community that really benefit from their services.

“We are delighted to support such a good cause and appreciate the job these firemen do for the community,” Ken Chadwick, Musical Director of the Sunshine Coast Concert Band, said.

One young performer, Laura Thomas a student of the Sunshine Coast Grammar School , will perform ‘Misty' as a solo on alto sax. She recently achieved the top grade in Australia in her Australian Music Exams and her contribution to the concert is particularly relevant as her father is a member of the Tanawha Fire Brigade.

Her music teacher, Charlie Simm, will perform ‘Golden Wedding' on clarinet and Keith Dowsett will perform a trombone solo of ‘Getting Sentimental over You'. Other favourites include Glenn Miller classics and performances by Allan Winter and Bev Gourlay who will sing a number of songs including ‘Born Free'.

Almost $100,000 has been raised for coast charities and community projects over the years and the 45 band members all volunteer their time for this good cause.

Tickets for the concert are $10 and include afternoon tea. For more information please contact Val on 5450 6680.

Ends.
